ABOUT  ME

Passionate About Well-being

Originally coming from a business background, I later trained as a counsellor working with young people with addiction and then qualified as a secondary school teacher. During this time I also learned to meditate and soon began to pass on this skill to others; I have now been teaching meditation for over thirty years.

Stillworks was born from a combined passion for teaching and meditating; and the personal experience of chronic illness. Diagnosed with Classical Ehlers Danlos Syndrome several years ago, and associated POTS, Fibromyalgia, and an auto-immune illness, I had to come to terms with accepting that the resulting pain and other complications were now part of daily life.  To say this was hard is an under-statement, however I began using Mindfulness and Meditation techniques for pain management and can now truly say that I live with my condition and not in spite of it.  Having made the difficult decision to leave full-time education I created Stillworks, because meditation is about stilling the breath, the body and the mind, and practicing this discipline means that most of me still works! Creating Stillworks has meant that I can pass on these skills to others which is an incredibly rewarding experience.

I believe in giving the best, so I completed extra training and became accredited as a meditation teacher through the British School of Meditation where I studied the latest research on the health benefits of regular meditation.  I also trained as a Hypnobirthing Teacher through KG Hypnobirthing, and became accredited with the Royal College of Midwives in order to teach and support pregnant women in experiencing the gentle births of their babies without fear of pain or loss of control.  I have since completed my Professional Diploma in Hypnotherapy, and a research MSC in Mindfulness through Bangor University where I focused on the effects of mindfulness-based interventions on brain function and chronic conditions. I have also undertaken further training in Trauma therapy, completing the Advanced Master Program on the Treatment of Trauma with the National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioural Medicine, and am now completing the Accreditation Program in Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness Practice through Browns University with Dr. David Treleaven.

In 2021 I completed my teacher training certificates in ACT-based mindful movement, Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi sets 1 - 3  and have been enjoying teaching these classes as well as continuing my daily training with Tai Chi Grand Master Brian Simpson. More details can be found here.

Today I teach daily in a variety of settings: chronic pain groups, mindfulness classes, meditation classes, one-to-one coaching, and hypnobirthing courses for small groups, couples and individuals. Due to my experience in the classroom I also teach mindfulness to groups of pupils and teachers, including pupils with additional learning needs, and have been lucky to see the benefits this has brought. I have also written my own course in mindfulness for parents and 0-3 year olds, as well as several courses in the theory & practice of mindfulness.
